Abstract

Objective: The objective of the present study was to determine physical and anthropo-metric variables among women with presence of morbid obesity according to their sleep quality. Material and Methods: Thirty-eight morbidly obese women participated, twenty morbidly obese women with good sleep quality (GSG) (age = 42.30 ± 12.71 years, height = 155 ± 0.07 cm, weight = 97.25 ± 17. 43 kg and BMI = 40.25 ± 5.80 kg / m2) and eighteen women with poor sleep quality (PSG) (age = 43.94 ± 10.74 years, height = 157 ± 0.06 cm, weight = 110.03 ± 27.08 kg and BMI = 44.17 ± 9.66 kg / m2). Results: There are no significant differences in body composition variables between the groups. However, a moderate ef-fect size on lean body mass (ES = 0.51) and muscle mass (ES = 0.56) is observed between the group with good sleep quality and the group with poor sleep quality. The group with poor sleep quality has a higher percentage of body fat (48.81 ± 6.68 %). Conclusion: The morbidly obese group with a lower quality of sleep presented significant differences in relation to the group with good quality of sleep in the physical variables represented by the cardiorespiratory capacity and in the anthropometric variable evaluated in relation to the percentage of body fat.
