Teaching and learning of martial arts and combat sports and their legal regulation in Chile: Tensions, reinterpretation and challenges
Keywords:
Martial arts, combat sports, lawAbstract
This essay presents a reflection on wrestling, martial arts, and combat sports taught and disseminated in Chile, in relation to the laws that have governed them and existing proposals, projecting new scenarios for those who teach and learn these martial arts and sports disciplines in Chile. The objective of this study is to analyze past and current legislation, as well as future proposals to regulate the practice, teaching, and dissemination of Martial Arts and Combat Sports (MACS) in Chile, using documentary analysis as a methodology (Flick, 2015). The essay concludes with a proposal consisting of a conceptual framework that could serve as input for a redefinition of the organizational landscape of these corporal practices, as well as considerations and suggestions on pedagogical training processes for those who teach these modalities, involving the university world in this important change in the legal and cultural landscape. While this essay specifically analyzes the Chilean context, it's important to acknowledge the existence of questions and proposals for regulating the teaching of these motor skills in countries like Spain and Brazil, where there have even been proposals to require university-level qualifications in Physical Education to teach AMDC (Analytics of Physical Development). For this reason, these proposals could have international repercussions.
